American Airlines Is Halting Travel to 15 US Cities Due to Low Demand

According to Reuters, the move will take effect on October 7th. Cities affected include , New Haven, Connecticut; New Windsor, New York; Roswell, New Mexico; Sioux City, Iowa; Springfield, Illinois; Stillwater, Oklahoma; Williamsport, Pennsylvania;.Del Rio, Texas; Dubuque, Iowa; Florence, South Carolina; Greenville, North Carolina; Huntington, West Virginia; Joplin, Missouri; Kalamazoo-Battle Creek, Michigan and Lake Charles, Louisiana. .This is the first step as American continues to evaluate its network and plans for additional schedule changes in the coming weeks, American Airlines, via Reuters. The airline says it will halt 700 flights, but there could be more cuts without additional help from Congress. U.S. airlines have warned that without more help, they will stop going to smaller airport hubs. The U.S. government is currently mulling over another $25 billion in aid for the airline industry. American Airlines previously received nearly $6 billion in payroll assistance. Congress has struggled to hash out a COVID-19 relief package. Reuters adds it may take until September to reach a deal.
